"I love you. Not like
they told you love is and I didn’t know this either, but love don’t make things
nice – it ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We
aren’t here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect.
Not us. We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the
wrong people and die." ~ Ronny Cammareri
It is true that love, like life, is messy and that like life,
love is what happens to you while you are making other plans, looking
the other way or simply aren’t expecting it.
The romantics of the world will have us believe that there is a way to
find love, to make it come to you. But the world doesn’t really work that way
does it? The reality of love is a little different than the movies, books and
songs extolling the fairytale story of love. Finding love doesn’t always make everything “nice”; often it does ruin
everything, break your heart and make things a complete mess. But who’s to say that that isn’t what is meant to
be? Who’s to say that to truly live life, we
must not experience ruination, heartbreak and mess?
We are imperfect creatures getting by in a very imperfect
world. But falling in love, being in
love, and being loved is as close to perfection as we will ever hope to
be. Because of this, we must
continually try, succumb to the ruin, endure the heartbreak and survive the
mess. It is because of love, and being loved that we must
actually live.
