She was a unique
constellation of attributes; my Halley’s comet…but the universe is designed to
break your heart, right? ~ Jake, Must
Love Dogs
How often have you found yourself thinking, “I need to pinch
myself to be sure this is real?” No doubt, more often than you care to
admit. Being the creatures that we are,
a bit short on faith and belief, it does seem that while we spend an inordinate
amount of time searching for that dare-to-be-great situation, we often don’t
see it when it is right in front of us.
It’s as if we can’t believe the universe would actually drop what we
want in our laps so we are constantly looking around the bend for that next
best thing. What would happen then, if we actually slowed
down, relaxed, took a breath and just let it be? Are we capable of allowing that which makes
us truly happy simply happen?
The world has conditioned us to reach for the brass ring. It
is with determination and unfaltering drive that has us searching for, well, that
elusive Halley’s comet. But sometimes,
you find something so great, that you can’t believe it’s real so you
essentially doom it before it even has a chance to marinate. This is our downfall. This is the dilemma. It isn't the universe disappointing, but actually just us. Perhaps it is a lesson to stop over-thinking,
stop searching, and start believing.
After all, just because Halley’s comet only comes around once every 75
years, doesn’t mean that love (or something like it) might not be just around the corner.
