A Proud Parent Moment

Being a parent is both the most amazing and the hardest job you'll ever have.  It's a double edged sword of well honestly, everything.  As a parent, you'll have good and bad, worry and relief, happy and sad, proud moments and disappointment.  Parenting has it all and never one without the other far behind.  And the thing about it, you just never know what you're going to get.  That's both the beauty and the uncertainty of it.  You are always on your toes.
I had the best kind of parenting moment the other day.
It was first quarter report card pick-up at school - yes, even in high school you physically go, get your child's report card and meet the teachers.  Not to brag, but I am used to the usual A's with an occasional B mixed in and mostly positive comments about both of my kids.  What I didn't expect was the absolute most amazing report about my son (he's a senior) from a teacher who has taught him now for two years.  The teacher complimented me on just about every aspect of my son, not only as a student but as a human being.  He said that my son was a true scholar and the type of student a teacher never forgets.  "Whatever you're doing - keep doing it," the teacher told me.  I was speechless.  How often do you get to hear comments of that caliber about your child?  I was floored, beaming with pride and admittedly pleased.  It's one of those rare moments when you realize that everything you've done, everything you've sacrificed has served it's purpose.  Some how, some way I managed to get it right.  Trust me when I say that those realizations do not come often, not where parenting is concerned.  But when they come, those moments, they are unforgettable and priceless.  That's when you realize it is absolutely all worth it.
