To Plan, Or Not To Plan: That Is The Question

Lately it seems that I don't always have a plan. If you know me, this is truly shocking. I always have a plan. Actually, I thought that to have an ordered and successful life, you really had to have a plan and stick to it. Kind of like in the movie The Story of Us where Katie tells Ben that someone has to be the designated driver of the marriage. It's that kind of thing. Someone has to have a plan. But after many, many, many years of being the "dd", I have now decided to just roll with it. Forget the plan and just be. Just take each day as it comes and see where it takes me. Sure, I have things to do, things to get done and I am thinking about the future. But for the most part, I'm just through planning every day, every action, every thought. Suddenly, I have discovered things about myself that I had no idea were even a part of my being. It is fascinating finding out who I am and realizing I didn't need a plan to do so. Seriously, who knew? Don't get me wrong, plans are great. I mean, if you are going away, you need to plan. If you are embarking on a career path, you need a plan. If you are starting your own business, buying a house, starting a family - you need a plan. Plans can be good things. I, on the other hand, am tired of having a thought-out, organized, predictable, perfect plan. I've decided to go with the flow and see where it takes me. Perhaps...maybe...this is now my plan.

  1. Try it on, maybe you'll like it and it will work for you. This blogging has relaxed you, I think. Unless it's the NYC food or the cruise or perhaps all of it rolled together. In any case, you were so unhappy for so long it's fantastic to hear you turning the corner and thinking about yourself for a change. Seriously!
