Today

Today is not a legal holiday.  It is not a day of remembrance like Memorial Day or Veteran's Day.  We do not have parades or picnics or hang flags.  There are no fireworks or cookouts.  It is a very normal day.
But today is an important day.  Today shaped much of who we are and what we are as a nation, as a country, as a people.  Eight years after that fateful morning, much has changed and yet, much has stayed the same.  Or country has been shaped by these monumental events and we must move forward but we must never forget what is behind.
We learn about history so that we are not doomed to repeat it.  We talk about the past so we can learn from it.  No matter who you are, where you live or what your circumstance, today is an important day.  Quiet as it might be, take a moment to remember.

  1. The newspaper this morning was lamenting that to many of our children, this is only a lesson, not a memory because they were too young. If you visit NYC eight years after the attacks, there is STILL only a hole in the ground to commemorate greed and political stalemate. At least there's a memorial at the Pentagon.
    Thank you for writing today.

  2. I remember it so vividly. I lost a coworker that day, killed by people from the country where I was born. What a huge wakeup call. I will always, always remember. I will always work toward being world friends.
