Avondale - Jacksonville's Boutique Shopping District

Just outside the city limits of downtown Jacksonville Florida near the St. John's river and tucked away among the stately homes built in the 1900's is the little shopping district of historic Avondale. Some would call it Jacksonville's original boutique shopping street. I would call it a lovely surprise. A friend and I ventured out a few Saturday's ago in search of unique baby items rather than the usual mall fare. Boutique Shopping? Go to Avondale. With crazy directions in hand (everyone has their take on how to get there), we found ourselves on a quaint little street lined with lovely little shoppes. Much to our very happy surprise, they were filled with reasonably priced, wonderful specialty items - furniture beautifully made; gift items with that personal touch; exceptional home decor pieces. True boutique shopping in Jacksonville. And the owners of the shoppes were extraordinarily charming southern grandma's ready to talk your ear off and assist in any and every way possible! When you go, you have to stop by the Avondale Gift Boutique and see Bette. She will absolutely make your day and her shop has all kinds of wonderful gifts and home items. But remember boutique shopping in Jacksonville is not an all-day affair. Make sure you arrived by late morning as most stores close by 4:00 p.m. and definitely stop by The Brick for lunch. The shrimp and grits are heaven in a wonton! Wear your comfy shopping shoes and see you at the Shoppes in Avondale!
